Just "Web" Browsing, not anymore.

You probably don't even think about it anymore, web browsing is as commonplace as watching TV, we do it all day long, for everything. Need information, entertainment, nothing to do, get it on the web. What isn't commonplace is those of us who seem to always have the web.

First and foremost I'm a Mozilla Firefox user, on my PC's, Mac and Linux machines. I like Microsoft programs but Firefox just seems to work better for me. But like I said above I have the web everywhere. Not just at home and work, everywhere, I have it with me just about all the time. For starters in my home I even have the web in the garage, haven't really used it much there but it's there on the Linux machine. I guess for that sometime when I need to look up something and I'm just to dirty to come inside.

I don't have a PS3 and have not yet seen the web browsing capabilities of that machine but I do have a PSP but have been very disappointed with its browsing capabilities. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but it can't seem to gather up enough memory to load most of the sites I want to browse and those it does it does at a snails pace. Simply not worth waiting forever when I can just go in the next room. It might be an alternative if I didn't have the web on my PDA but more about that in a minute.

What has actually positively surprised me is the Wii Opera Web Browser. While not fast enough (at least for the distance it is from my Wireless access point) to do much with video (when it was closer it streamed YouTube much better) including sites Mahalo Daily and Webb Alert that I visit it does load most of the other sites I visit fast enough. Yesterday I was able to browse Google Reader, AVS and even check my Hotmail with ease. Since it's also on my HDTV it's nice and big to see. So it's brought browsing from the couch in the living room in as an alternative when the mood strikes me.

Finally for me is that always with me function of having the web both on my phone and my PDA Phone. Of course the PDA is the better option, it isn't on the 3G network so using the cell service can make things a little slow but I tend to browse mobile versions of sites I regularly visit anyway. Connected to Wi Fi its much faster and very usable either way in a pinch. My actual cell phone also can get on the web yet again using mostly those mobile versions of sites.

So the web, its always there and I guess you can say I get tangled up in it from time to time. Of course it helps that in the area of web browsing on the go we have certainly come a long way.

It wasn't that long ago I can remember the Internet and the WWW just arriving, oh how it was simple in its infancy. Yet I don't think back then I could have imagined it being so much a part of my daily life as it is now.

And so it seems perhaps we're not "just browsing" anymore are we.

Ah yes the Web, the World Wide Web. Does anyone even call it that anymore?
