I Just Started Running...

I guess this falls pretty far from the normal topic of tech, but about 6 weeks or so ago I started running (well more like jogging) mostly for exercise. See as you get older you start to get out of shape really fast and sitting home or at work on the computer all day isn't much exercise.

It was my neighbor across the street who got me into running, first was the trip to the sporting goods store for what I thought was an insane wardrobe to go running, I needed running sneakers, shorts, shirts, and socks all special for running. After that we went a bit more my style and headed to Circuit City for my armband for my mp3 player. At first I was going to use my old Dell Jukebox player for fear of it falling off while running but I've since gone to my 80 gig Zune which is much better company while running!

We started off slow and short, he'd been running awhile so it was a step back for him although shortly after we started running he hurt his ankle in a non running incident so we're really at the same pace now.

Not long after we started running though he dragged me to the lake and before I knew it I was running 3 miles without dying. I will admit I felt I reached this point MUCH sooner than I had planned. With that in mind I was planning on running a 5K in September but one popped up much sooner.

Last week I ran in my first 5K and I'm happy to say I didn't finish last! It was my first run with competition and my goal from the start was to run my own race, never stop or walk and of course finish the race. Proudly I accomplished my goals and I finished the race in 31 minutes and 19 seconds!

Now I'm running this week to work on my speed and when my running partner returns from vacation we'll begin training for the next 5K in September. Till then I'll just keep running!
